Ages 8-11: Bird Banding Ecology Camp

What’s more fun than holding a baby bird? Your camp director has a federal permit for migratory bird banding and participates in a 40-year study of bluebirds and Tree Swallows nesting in 75 nest boxes on Victor Road from Beaver Creek to Highway 11 south to Dundurn. Students help with the banding process and get to hold baby birds. Data goes to the international registry. We’ll observe the banding of a large colony of Purple Martins south of town. In the lab we learn about bird anatomy, behavior, migration and identification. This 4 day camp includes field trips to grasslands, wetlands and the zoo.

Children must be at least 8 years old and not older than 11 years in order to register for this Ecology Camp (+/- 2 months).

There is one Junior Leader spot available for this camp until June 1 (must be between 12 - 17 years of age and previously attended an ecology camp).

Extended childcare is available each day for an additional $32.00 charge. Children can be dropped off at extended care starting at 8:00 am, and must be picked up no later than 5:00 pm.

Refund Policy

The registration fee, less a $50 administration charge, will be refunded ONLY if your spot can be filled from the camp waiting list. We are sorry, but if your spot cannot be filled, the registration fee is non-refundable. Non-attendance does not constitute notice of withdrawal. There will be a $50 administration fee charged if you wish to transfer to a different camp after the initial registration.
