Silversmithing: Basic Skills for Silver Jewelry

Learn to design and create your own jewelry, and the basics of using traditional hand tools. Instructor Doug Frey is a studio goldsmith and gem cutter who works in gold, platinum, and silver, as well as natural gemstone materials.

This workshop covers:

  • Annealing and soldering
  • Using a jewelers saw
  • Layout, drilling holes, measuring etc.
  • Using a rolling mill
  • Texturing with hand, burs, rolling mill etc.
  • Tool care
  • Finishing and polishing
  • Design concepts with a slide show of some contemporary jewelers pieces
  • Safety in the jewelry studio

Tool kit and silver required, and is purchased at the time of registration.  You will receive the tools and silver in class.

 

Refund Policy

Students may withdraw from a course at any time. A $75 withdrawal fee is charged for withdrawing from a course up to 2 weeks prior to course start date. No course refund is processed after this time. Non-attendance does not constitute notice of withdrawal.
